Per the Cancer Treatment Center of America, breast cancer is the most common non-skin cancer among American women. One in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer during her lifetime. But advances in breast cancer treatment mean many women can expect to beat the disease and maintain their physical appearance.
Zonta Walks for Women is eagerly anticipating its 11th Annual Walk and 5K Walk/Run. This is an event that we look forward to every year as we seek to raise breast cancer awareness in our local community by:
In addition, this event raises funds. Funds that are kept local with net proceeds being gifted to the Friends Together Tees and Tops Program, local wig support programs and Mid-Michigan Medical Center of Alpena local mammography subsidy fund. From the event's inception in 2007, we have raised more than $200,000. This has been accomplished through the amazing support we receive each year from both our wonderful sponsors and our participants.
Our 11th Annual Walk and 5K Run is on Saturday, October 7, 2017 and registration is OPEN! Click on the below link to register! Registration forms can also be picked up at Besser Credit Union, Neiman's Family Market, LaFave Pharmacy and Friends Together.

Help us kick-off this year's Walk for Women with our 2nd ever Bras Across the Bridge!
Why? We are hoping to raise awareness and fight against breast cancer by flooding the Pedestrian Bridge between NOAA and Rotary Island with bras.
How are we going to do this? By having community members decorate bras and drop them off at Friends Together Alpena on Friday, October 6 between Noon and 4:00 PM. Zonta Club of Alpena will then flood the Pedestrian Bridge between NOAA and Rotary Island with bras the evening of Friday, Oct 6 between 5:30 and 7:30 PM. Community members can stroll down to the bridge during that time and vote by donation for their favorite.
The person who receives the most votes will be announced at our Walk on October 7th and will win a BOOBIE prize!
